I think it's very tricky to adequately judge historical figures taking into account their moral context. Morality evolves and what's considered a horrible crime today may not have been in the past, generally speaking. People living 100 years from now could think the same about us (if we assume we've not yet reached a perfect moral sense).
These things aside, I really liked the article and I agree is a good thing to reflect on the image we have of historical figures (philosophers in particular), because we're often biased by their achievements.
