We indeed anthropomorphize AI — even AI that's not remotely AGI — but in the end that's just a facade.

While it could help us feel more connected to machines, the illusion could fall apart, revealing the truth behind it. For example, talking to GPT-3 can feel sometimes as if we were talking to a semi-intelligent system, but when it starts looping the illusion breaks.

Only true emotional AI could create long-lasting bonds with us. Although, for sure we have some responsibility on how well the coexistence evolves.
