I think we can trust the reported benchmark performance that's in the technical report (with a pinch of skepticism and critical thinking, of course, as it should always be).
The demo was fabricated but I'm surprised at how many people are angry about it - all big tech companies do it all the time. We can be mad at them, fair, but exclusively at Google? Not coherent.
It's a much more criticizable fact that they didn't reveal anything about the training data or the underlying architecture, which isn't very scientific at all. Yet I see almost no one talking about that and everyone focused on the PR demo.
