You could say GPT-3 is "old news," but I wouldn't call it "obsolete." Wu Dao 2.0, Switch-C - and now Megatron-Turing NGL 530B - are posterior but very similar.

However, I'm not talking about monopoly in the technological sense, but in the commercial sense. OpenAI and Microsoft are the only ones commercializing the system and so anyone who wish to use it needs to pay them for it.
