That's a very good question. We certainly don't need it, but do we want it? It seems the answer is yes for most. Then the question is: For what?
Is it to make our lives easier? To fulfill the hunger for discovery and knowledge? To bring forward human progress?
Achieving AGI incites clashing feelings in me. I'd love to know more about who we are and how we've made it this far and also about our minds and intelligence.
But, at the same time, I'm afraid of the consequences of such technology. Social cons in the form of losing jobs, increased inequality or potential wars and ethical in the form of the possibility of giving consciousness and emotions to these AGI entities. Could they suffer? Would they be subject to laws regarding human rights?
It's definitely a complex matter.
