I totally agree with you. Even though we don't understand AI completely, it's useful as it is today. I like your phrase "progression is better than perfection." ML/DL systems are solving many problems that were unsolvable before and that's a good thing in and of itself.

However, it seems that most of the remaining problems to achieve true intelligent machines are out of reach for today's technologies. We should be well aware of ML/DL's limits and scope. If we're heading towards a dead-end, we'll have to rethink AI. In the end, funding depends on fulfilled promises.
